Be agile – everywhere!

Who works in a team together with other people, knows the problem. Files are sent and changed several times until the final result is definite. But this can be easier. Collaborative Writing is the solution.

A whole group of collaborative writers and authors is working together in the same document. Software like Google Docs or EtherPad makes it possible, to create, edit and delete content at the same time or after each other, like in a wiki. Wikipedia, a free encyclopedia is a famous way of collaborative writing.

Every author is able to comprehend the changes other authors are implementing in real time without the need of being at the same location like the other authors. The process happens time and location independent and brings almost endless possibilities with it.

To create relevant content with a team of different authors requires coordination. This can be a hierarchy, where different authors have different rights and options of editing the document. But collaborative writing can also work without hierarchy with every author having the same rights and the result doesn’t show which content was written by which author.

To receive a good result without hierarchy, it requires a lot of exchange between the authors. This can happen on a meta-level, like a chat.

 Advantages

Advantages of Collaborative Writing are the interaction between different authors with each having a different knowledge and different skills. From that results a learning for every participant. Untrained authors can learn the method from their experienced colleagues and every participant takes the perspective of the author as well as the reader, what probably leads to a reflection of the own method.

Moreover this active confrontation with a certain topic increases the motivation and the learning enormously. Thus the result reflects not only the opinion and view of a single person but is the essence of the knowledge and experience of a whole bunch of heads and gains a higher quality thought that.

Meanwhile Collaborative Writing is indispensable in the field of education and passing on information and it is certainly a future oriented way of creating content.
